I was lucky to visit the coolest art studio DeFacto in Beijing and meet these guys Leonardo and David who are crazy about 3D modeling and printing. They work with design, experiment with different machines and printers. If the necessary machine doesn’t exist, they will make it themselves! They don’t have any limits. They even made my bubble cake out of sugar! Two hours of speaking with them were as one minute. So maybe there will be new interesting projects with www.defactobeijing.com this year! ?
ISOMALT HORSE
ISOMALT LION
DeFacto: The three-dimensional stunning sculpture of the famous Lion of St. Marks is part of a long term collaboration between La Galleria and Defacto which explores the relationship between 3d printing and food. The Lion of St. Marks sculpture is created with Isomalt. Created by way of 3d printing, in conjunction with traditional mold making and casting techniques, the resulting piece is a solid sculpture representing a historic symbol. The Lion Sculpture is on display at the Italian Embassy of Beijing, China.
DeFacto: The three-dimensional re-creation of Tree of Blue Underglaze by Chinese artist Xu Lei. The Horse sculpture is created with Isomalt, a sugar substitute popular used in the culinary arts because of its durability.
These sculptures don’t look like usual isomalt showpieces that were made by a pastry chef, but I really like them. I like the filling, transparency, bubbles and this golden color gives them the true royal look.
At the studio with Leonardo and David. There are the 3D models of the lion.
